Whether it is keeping our mean streets safe or dancing embarrassingly at the Notting Hill Carnival, policemen have their uses.

This time though, they've really outdone themselves, well one officer in particular who entered into a friendship group's WhatsApp chat in order to get their a drunken man home.

The officer opened the chat of friends at Cardiff University when one member, Cameron, was so inebriated he was unable to get himself home. The officer used the group chat to say: "'Hello it's the police on Cameron's phone. He is very drunk and we are dropping him home. He does not know what number…he lives on"

Unsurprisingly the friends smelt a rat with one saying "I call bullshit" and someone called "Wholemeal Wateman Roadman" sent three police officer emojis. Helpful.

Not wanting to waste any further time the officer sent the group a picture of himself to prove his identity.

One friend from the group commented that, "It made us all laugh out loud and the fact it has gone viral online is unbelievable. After being told the correct address, the officers messaged: 'We will get him home safe now. Don't forget to thank your friendly neighbourhood officers at Cathays station."

"Ron actually can't remember anything, he's laughing about it now but I have tried to get something out of him but he actually doesn't know.I think it's brilliant, it gives you another side to the police force and you don't often see them as being a laugh."

"Ron is going to get a lot of banter over this, no doubt. It's one for the grandkids.'

Ron's poor grandchildren.
