Player Banned From French Open For Trying To Kiss Interviewer On Live TV

Maxime Hamou groped journalist in 'reprehensible act'

Tennis player Maxime Hamou has been kicked out of the French Open after grabbing a reporter around the neck and trying to kiss her on live television.

The 21-year-old Frenchman was being interviewed by journalist Maly Thomas in the wake of his three set defeat to Pable Cuevas in the opening round of the competition when he put his arm around her neck and repeatedly tried to kiss her head.

"It was frankly unpleasant, if it was not live, I would have punched him," Maly later told the Huffington Post.

The French Tennis Federation described it as a 'reprehensible act' and revoked the World No 287's accreditation to the competition.

"Roland-Garros tournament organisers took the decision to revoke Maxime Hamou's accreditation following his inappropriate behaviour towards a female journalist yesterday, Monday 29 May," the statement read.

"The FFT President has asked the disputes committee to investigate for improper conduct."
