Cristiano Ronaldo likes to step up last in penalty shoot-outs – and while charitable football fans might put that down to nerves, we all know it's because he wants to be the one to reel away in triumph, as the crowd goes bat-shit behind him, towards the stampede of his adoring teammates.

After a 0-0 stalemate in the Confederations Cup semi-final, Portugal and Chile had to settle the game on a penalty shoot-out.

Portugal missed their first two shots, thanks to the heroics of Manchester City keeper Claudio Bravo, and Chile scored both. Surely Ronaldo, one of the greatest penalty-takers in history, would decide that it was time for him to inject some confidence back into his faltering team.

Well, err… no. Alexis Sanchez converted his team's third penalty, leaving it to Nani to save Portugal's chances. His shot was saved, and Chile progressed to the Confederations Cup final.
