Join the French Resistance

A game about an Irish racing mechanic becoming a French Resistance fighter in Nazi-occupied Paris sounds, frankly, preposterous. However, this premise was inspired by a real person, according to the makers of The Saboteur (out today) so we’ll let them off that one. And ever since the title won a Best of E3 award back in June, coupled with Pandemic Studios showing off a very arty trailer, we’ve been looking forward to this release.

Apart from being a quality strategy/shooter, Saboteur boasts a gaming first: an entirely open-world Paris environment to explore - so you can prowl through the dark alleys, rooftops, burlesque houses and seedy streets of the City of Light.

One other noteworthy element of Saboteur is the stunning design. As Sean Devlin, you navigate Forties Paris shrouded in black and white, save the odd splash of vivid red. However, as you raise hell against the Bosh, the city reacts and changes around you as morale increases - bursting into colour in the process. It’s an impressive device.

With an emphasis on using your brain as well as brawn to achieve objectives - any saboteur worth his salt can’t just wade in swinging, it’s about picking a strategy that allows you to do as much damage undetected - this title has much to offer those growing weary of the standard shooters out right now.
