Beyond Daft Punk: Other French Electro You Need To Hear

Most Popular

So like the rest of humankind you've overplayed your copy of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories and you're wondering what to put on your Spotify playlist next. How about continuing the French electronic theme with a few lesser known dance acts from across La Manche. Here's three to try:

1 Breakbot

Thibaut Berland aka Breakbot is a French electro/funk producer and DJ from the Paris-based Ed Banger Records label behind other famous French dance acts like Justice and Cassius. Breakbot himself is probably best-known for his remixes like “Pnau-Baby” in 2008 or “A Thing For Me-Metronomy”. But it would be wrong just to see him as a remix artist - his memorable EP from 2010 Baby I’m Yours featuring Irfane and brilliant 2012 album in 2012 By Your Side are proof that Breakbot is his own man.

2 Kavinsky
Remember "Nightcall", the signature track from Ryan Gosling's Drive? Of course you do. Well, this is the man yoiu have to thank. Real name Vincent Belorgey, Kavinsky started his career with the Record Makers label and has been a big hitter on the French electronic scene ever since, touring with Dat Punk, Justice and The Rapture amongst others. His 2013 album OutRun with Odd Look is a must listen for fans of big-scale electro.

3 SebastiAn
Like Breakbot, SebastiAn (the capital 'A' is not a typo) is another Paris DJ affiliated with Ed Banger Records. He released his first EP Smoking Kills in 2005 and produced some high-profile remixes like "Human After All" with Daft Punk. With a new album in the offing, he's perhaps best know for his 2011 track Embody which is a stand-out French house classic:
