'Fading Thoughts' by Andrew Myers

Half the reason you like art is because, as you said to that date you were trying to impress, you 'enjoy the visceral stimulation that art provides'. In other words, you like looking at cool stuff. We know the feeling. 

Take this work by American artist Andrew Myers. He's created a 3D artwork out of screws called 'Fading thoughts'. It's an image of someone being literally blown away by a fan and is totally 3D, right down to the protruding nose.

It's the sort of art that evokes all those visceral feelings you encounter when trying to impress someone with your art knowledge. And, yes, it looks cool too.
