The advice offered in the trailer for Marvel's newest release? Forget everything you think you know.

With Benedict Cumberbatch playing an arrogant surgeon who becomes apprentice to an ancient sorcerer (Tilda Swinton) the guidance looks pretty spot on. The story is set in another realm and follows Dr. Steven Strange who learns that he could save lives in other ways than as a neurosurgeon.

Scott Derrickson is confirmed to direct so we can expect a terrifying adventure given his CV of directing Poltergeist, Deliver Us From Evil and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Other confirmed cast are Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The trailer promises world-distorting visuals with one scene of a skyline folding in on itself that looks like it was taken straight from Christopher Nolan's Inception. This new mind-bending style for Marvel is part of their 'Phase 3' series where a new set of characters are introduced whilst The Avengers are in turmoil.

Cumberbatch, who has played a host of psychological roles from Macbeth to a certain Detective Holmes, opened up to Entertainment Weekly about his new more physical role.

"I'm still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I've got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically."

With Sherlock creators hinting the forthcoming series may be it's last it looks like Cumberbatch has found the perfect eccentric character to replace him.

Doctor Strange will be in cinemas November 2016.
