Warning: this article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7, episode 5 'Eastwatch'

Joe Dempsie has hinted that a Gendry and Arya Stark romance could well be on the cards.

The Game of Thrones actor returned to screens during 'Eastwatch' for the first time since season three after Ser Davos found the bastard son of Robert Baratheon had finally stopped rowing and had set up shop making weapons for his enemies in King's Landing.

With a brand new buzz cut, may we add.

Gendry travelled onto Dragonstone with Davos and Tyrion where he almost insulted Jon Snow, revealed his true heritage and joined Thrones's very own suicide squad on their mission to venture beyond the wall to find a White Walker to bring back to Cersei and Dany.

Now, assuming the show hasn't brought back Gendry after three years just to kill him off the episode after, fans are channelling their hopes towards seeing Gendry eventually reunite with Arya (Maisie Williams).

And it seems that's a hope Gendry actor Dempsie has too, recently hinting that we may see the union of two great houses in the form of a Arya/Gendry romance as he admits that he's sure Gendry has been thinking of Arya in the years they've been separated.

"[Gendry] would love to see Arya again," Dempsie told Making Game of Thrones. "He senses she's a good soul.

"I wouldn't say he's pining, because you have to toughen up and accept there are people who are going to drift in and out of your life.

"I'm sure he thinks of her every now and again and wonders how she's getting on, and whether she's crossed more names off that list."

Oh, just a few, Gendry.

Dempsie's return to the show has seen the actor reflect on Gendry and Arya's relationship a few times, including recently revealing that it "could go a number of ways".

"As a result of the difference in age, I think one of the roles Gendry played in Arya's story was as him being an older guy who sort of awakens certain feelings in Arya for the first time as she's becoming a young woman," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Whether that means Gendry has a place in Arya's heart or vice versa, I have no idea. I think there's almost a sibling element, too. At that point in the story, Gendry really reminded her of her brothers and of home. That was the comfort with him.

"But it could go a number of ways. It would just be nice if they met again, wouldn't it? It's a pairing you wouldn't want to mess with."
