You likely look at Netflix is something of an addiction already, whether by ploughing through season 2 of Narcos or allowing yourself just one more episode of House of Cards. But Netflix have got there sights on more concrete narcotics, according to a recent interview with their CEO and founder Reed Hastings.
Whilst at a Wall Street Journal tech event, the head of the content streaming service hinted jokingly that the way we consume entertainment may be through drugs. Hastings said he believed film and television would fade and take up a status like opera or regarded literature.
"The ultimate challenge for us is: What is that new form of content?" Hastings said, "Is it VR, AR? Is it pharmacological?"
"In twenty or fifty years taking a personalised blue pill, you just hallucinate in an entertaining way and then a white pill brings you back to normality is perfectly viable; and if the source of human entertainment in thirty or forty years is pharmacological we'll be in real trouble."
