The latest instalment of Netflix’s The Crown ushers in teenage versions of the most headline-grabbing royals: Prince William (played by Ed McVey), Prince Harry (Luther Ford) and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy). Following the death of Princess Diana, the show’s final six episodes focus on new beginnings and tensions. William finishes his A-Levels and heads off to St Andrews, a transition made both pleasurable and painful by a stop-start romance with distinctly non-royal Kate (her mum, as some delightful peers note, was an air hostess). Harry, meanwhile, takes on his role as the family’s black sheep with aplomb, indulging in dope and scandalous fancy dress.

For Freeze Frame, the actors discuss key scenes from this final stretch: how did McVey and Ford approach the brothers’ tender relationship? What was the secret to portraying the blossoming romance between Kate and Will? And how did they get their heads around some of those mind-bogglingly aristocratic lines?
