Tom Hardy Wanted To Show You His Penis In 'Taboo'

"You're lucky there was a loin cloth."

Fighting Leonardo DiCaprio in the Canadian wilderness for The Revenant obviously gave Tom Hardy a taste for the extreme.

Discussing his new TV show Taboo – which has been cleverly marketing with a shot of him walking in Africa wearing nothing but a loin cloth - he told the BBC: "You're lucky there was a loin cloth because I didn't want one.

"It's not a period drama until someone gets naked and covers themselves in blood. At least you're showing willing.

"I was in Tilbury, in the moat, in the docks, with nothing on. We were trying to eke out drama from any opportunity and none of that makes the cut."

In the drama Hardy plays a man called James Delaney who, in 1814, returns from Africa to inherit what is left of his father's shipping empire.

The eight-episode series has a hell of a cast, including Jonathan Pryce, Oona Chaplin, David Hayman, Jessie Buckley, Ashley Walters and Jefferson Hall.

It starts on 7 January at 9.15 on BBC One.
