Before you Amazon Prime yourself a new DJI Phantom 4, know that Scanu has years of experience (and good genes) on this side: He learned how to use a DSLR when he was just 12 years old from his dad, who is a cinematographer.

He father was also the person who introduced him to drone photography. "He purchased a drone for work purposes and we drove out to the snowy mountains of Australia to fly it for the very first time," Scanu told told From Where I Drone.

After returning from the mountains, Scanu started off by capturing aerial images of Australian beaches and coastline near his hometown.

Australia looks great from up here. So do California and the United Kingdom, which Scanu also photographed from above.

"The thing I love most about drone photography is the fact that you can capture scenes from a perspective that they are never usually viewed from," Scanu told Wired.

So what are his tips for any aspiring drone photographers? "The most challenging part about operating a drone is taking off and landing," Scanu told Buzzfeed Australia. "It's important to find a wide open space with no physical obstructions that may cause an accident or injury to yourself or others."

The photos are awesome in action, too, as you can see in this video of footage from Scanu's recent trip to California:
