Triathlete Alistair Brownlee Gives Up Glory To Carry Younger Brother Over Finish Line

Brothers in arms

In proof that family always comes first – well actually, second and third on this occasion – the hearts of sports fans the world over were lifted this week when runner Jonny sacrificed his own stab at glory to help carry brother Alistair over the finish line at the World Triathlon Series.

The younger Brownlee (26) was just 700m from the finish line and on course for victory when his legs began to go due to heat stroke and exhaustion.

Coming up behind him in third was older bro – and Olympic gold medallist - Alistair (28), who carried his sibling the rest of the way to the finish line in Mexico. The pair, from Yorkshire, duly finished behind South Africa's Henri Schoeman.
