It's been a year since Britain voted for Brexit and while we are still firmly in the "it's complicated" stage of our relationship with the EU, it turns out us Britons are a lot more cut throat when it comes to each other.

Research conducted by eHarmony through ICM has shown a staggering 1.6 million relationships broke down thanks to Brexit, and a further 2.7 million couples came close to calling it a day due to their opposing political views.

Yes, just when we thought these were the only relationship deal breakers.

Although Brexit is proving to be a positive (words we'd never thought we'd say) when it comes to starting a new relationship. It turns out when it comes to online dating people who mentioned Brexit in their profile (whether Remainer or a Brexiteer) received more messages than the average user - men alone seeing a 90% increase.

Brexit has even inspired dating apps like Remainder, dubbed for the 48% who voted to stay, because "what better way to recover than hooking up with someone who shares your sense of existential dread?".

So just like Brexit itself, no-one really knows what the hell is going on, but we are giving it a stab anyway. What's the worst that could happen?
