January 2017 marked two important dates: the one-year anniversary of David Bowie's death, and what would have been his 70th birthday. And although Sting has honored his late friend via song before, his latest tribute is perhaps his most reverant.

On Tuesday in Los Angeles, Sting stunned a nearly nine-minute cover of "Blackstar," as well as the chilling "Lazarus," which (up until recently) was thought to be an ominous foreshadowing of his terminal cancer. Sting's performance was part of "Celebrating Bowie," which took place at the Wiltern in California.

One of the most powerful moments was when the 65-year-old musician sang the line "Something happened on the day he died," and the entire audience fell silent. A chillingly beautiful performance to a forever legend.
