Bruce McLaren only lived to be 32 years old, but in his incredibly short life, he became a motorsports legend. McLaren's name lives on in his namesake F1 team and the road-car company it spawned, but not enough people know about the man himself. A new documentary, titled simply, McLaren looks to change that.

Production company Universal Pictures released the first trailer for McLaren Tuesday and announced that the film would be released later this year. Per The Hollywood News, the film is being directed by Roger Donaldson and features appearances by Chris Amon, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti, Jackie Stewart, and others.

As one of the most fascinating figures in motorsports history, McLaren is the perfect subject for a documentary. As a driver his achievements were significant–he won the Monaco Grand Prix, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and a host of Can-Am races–but arguably, he was a more important constructor. With his namesake team, he made a strong showing in F1, but proved to be virtually unbeatable in Can-Am along with fellow New Zealand driver Denny Hulme.

Sadly, he was killed testing one of his cars in 1970 at Goodwood. His team carried on and continued to be a dominant force in motorsports and, more recently, high-performance sports cars.

Based on the trailer, the film looks like a fitting tribute to an incredible innovator. We'll know for sure when it's released later this year.
