Piers Morgan has lashed out at Theresa May for allegedly putting a block on Good Morning Britain appearances today.

He and Susanna Reid were due to interview Conservative MP Sir Michael Fallon on the show this morning about the tragedy at Grenfell Tower.

But the Prime Minister is said to have intervened in the early hours and cancelled the scheduled appearance at around 12am.

Commenting on what had happened, Piers told viewers: "I am so sorry we haven't got people from the government here today. Theresa May has blocked anybody from coming in to the programme – but apparently, they are appearing on other outlets.

"They don't want to come on our show because they don't want to face the tough questions. I think that's completely cowardly. Sir Michael Fallon, shame on you for saying you'd come on the show, then pulling out at midnight.

"You should be here talking to the people of this country whose lives have been affected – many of whom will be watching this programme. Shame on you.

"I want people at the top of the system to come on here, face the music and answer the difficult questions."

However, political journalist Kevin Schofield appeared to question Piers's claim, citing a source close to Fallon who called the allegation "flat out untrue" – to which the presenter hit back: "Where is he then?"

The furore comes after Piers told Tory MP Michael Gove to "shove it where the sun don't shine" last week.

So unsurprisingly, some viewers weren't overly shocked by the move.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "Both @susannareid100 and @piersmorgan want to claim headlines and bully and yell at MPs. Shameful journalism. @gmb is blacklisted."

Another posted: "Surprised any one comes on your show @GMB and it's unprofessional interrogation from Piers Morgan. Shouted over, and not able to speak!Maybe because no one can get a word in edgeways being interviewed by u. You always interrupts&2 b fair, like the sound of your own voice."

And a third tweeted: "The way Piers spoke to Michael Gove last week, it's hardly surprising people don't want to give him time of day. Making GMB unattractive."

However, others sided with Piers and slammed the government for seemingly avoiding tough questioning.

One tweeted: "@piersmorgan Thank you for saying what needs to be said. (from a clad tower block resident)."

A second then added: "Well said Piers. You've got yourself a reputation of asking the questions others avoid. Country is in an almighty mess Shameful government."
