Martin Scorsese fans can rejoice, because the director's new film, Silence, will be hitting the big screen this year after all.

Previously, there was an unknown issue that was preventing the film from being released in 2016, and it was looking like it would have to wait until the next calendar year to wow critics. Now, the problem has apparently been fixed, as it's now coming out at the very tail end of 2016: December 23rd.

Silence is an adaptation of Shusaku Endo's novel of the same name; it stars Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield as Jesuit missionaries in Japan. As Vulture notes, the film had been considered a possible front-runner in this year's Oscars...if it managed to nab a 2016 slot.
