Of all the new characters introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega's Finn certainly had the most intense journey. He began a shell-shocked Stormtrooper horrified by the violence of war. His story sees him save a captured Resistance pilot, get shot down, meet Rey, escape on the Millennium Falcon, join the Resistance, and then end up in a lightsaber battle with the most feared man in the First Order. That's a lot!

But, there's good news and bad news for Finn in The Last Jedi. The good news is that after bravely taking on a Sith Master, he's gotten the respect of the Resistance.

"The funny thing is, between VII and VIII, Finn's now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that–you get taken down by Kylo Ren," Boyega told Entertainment Weekly. "Think about what the gossip's going to be like in the Resistance. 'Oh, that's the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?'"

Yeah, so he has some street cred now (space cred?), but the bad news is Ren totally messed him up.

"Finn's in a bad way at the end of VII," Boyega said. "He has a lot of issues. He got slashed with a saber, and that took him down real hard, so he's in a coma. That suit, that whole thing helps him to recover. But we're not sure whether that means he'll wake up."

Obviously, he wakes up to participate in the next movie and go on a mission with Rose Tico, Kelly Marie Tran's new character who serves as a mechanic in the Resistance. But as Boyega says, "It's going to take him some time to get back on the ball."
