Patty Jenkins was at the helm of the summer's biggest blockbuster, directing DC's Wonder Woman which quickly went on to become the highest grossing film from a female director ever.

The film's success wasn't a guarantee, though, especially to Jenkins herself, who was prepared for some bad feedback when it dropped earlier this year.

"I went into the release of the movie assuming it would be, in best case, a mixed bag," she told Richard Donner on The Director's Cut, a podcast run by the Directors Guild of America.

"And I sort of braced myself for it, where I thought, 'Well, listen, you're doing a beloved superhero; it's always going to end up being at least 40%, oh you could have done, blah blah blah.'"

The big-screen treatment of Wonder Woman might have been a long time coming, but critics and audiences were both very positive about the movie, starring Gal Gadot.

At the US Box Office, Wonder Woman has now raked in more than $400 million, and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

"The support and positivity that the movie has received, and also just the people wanting to talk about what we wanted to talk about in the movie and not other things, has been stunning," Jenkins said.

Jenkins is currently in negotiations to direct the upcoming sequel to the most successful superhero origin movie ever, and has assured fans that it will be "totally different" to Diana's first outing.
