Jennifer Lawrence stars as a Russian spy in the intriguing first trailer for Red Sparrow.

The film reunites Jennifer with Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence and is based on the novel by former CIA officer Jason Matthews.

The spy thriller sees Jennifer play Dominika Egorova who is drafted against her will to become a "sparrow", a trained seductress in the Russian security service, learning to use her body as a weapon.

Emerging as one of their strongest assets, her first target is CIA officer Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton) with the two falling into a seductive game of cat-and-mouse that threatens their careers and the security of both countries.

Red Sparrow also stars Jeremy Irons, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson, Mary Louise Parker and Charlotte Rampling.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that even though it is set in Russia, there will be no references to Vladimir Putin.

Putin plays a key role in the book and was originally left out of the movie as the story was shifted from modern-day Russia to 1970s Budapest, but even when the story was moved back to the present day, Putin is not said to have been restored.

It's claimed that Fox avoided references to Putin to avoid any chance of falling foul of hackers, such as when Sony was targeted because of The Interview.

Back in May, Jennifer spoke out about a leaked video of her pole dancing at a strip club during the filming of Red Sparrow in Austria. "I'm not going to apologise, I had a BLAST last night," she explained.

Red Sparrow is released in cinemas in March 2018, but if you can't wait that long for a new Jennifer Lawrence movie, mother! is released in cinemas tomorrow (September 15).
