Blade Runner 2049 hasn't even hit cinemas yet, but there's already talk of a third movie.

That's perhaps down to the fact that the long-awaited sci-fi sequel has been hailed as a masterpiece in the first reactions, a response that even the most diehard Blade Runner fan could only have dreamed of.

If its box office matches the early critical response, it's likely that talk of a third movie will increase, and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve and star Ryan Gosling have already been asked if they would be up for it.

"If there was a story to tell that was worth telling and worth the effort that we were going to put into it, then sure. But I have yet to hear that story," Gosling told The Los Angeles Times.

Villeneuve expanded: "This movie is just out of the oven. I have no distance from it at all. I'm still making my peace with it. So a third one – if there is a third one – is not something I've thought about at all. For me, it was enough to try to stay on the horse for this run, you know?"

Before we get to the possibility of a third movie, we just hope that Blade Runner 2049 doesn't end up with multiple versions like the original movie.

Blade Runner 2049 is released in UK cinemas on 5 October and US cinemas on 6 October.
