We already knew that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle would pay tribute to Robin Williams' character, but now we've been given an extra tease as to how.

Talking to ScreenRant, producer Matt Tolmach explained that the spirit of Williams' Alan Parrish is "something you'll feel in this movie" and that "his presence in this world is felt", confirming that it's more of a continuation of Jumanji than a sequel or reboot.

"Without giving too much away... I'm biting my tongue right now... So for example, the journey that Alan Parrish went on, we soon realise... he was the one who discovered that there were multiple Jumanji worlds," added Dwayne Johnson.

It seems as though the movie will also fill in Alan's backstory as he was waiting around for a new player to enter the game. "I always wondered where Robin Williams' character went for all of that time in the first one," noted Karen Gillan.

"It was sort of left to the imagination a little. And that's where this film comes in, and we get to see exactly where he went, and what it feels like, and what it looks like. That's the biggest difference."

We've already had a hint of what Alan was up to in the world of Jumanji thanks to Jack Black.

"We find clues left behind by Alan. He built up a full-blown jungle house, similar to a Swiss Family Robinson situation. It's like he's there helping us without actually being there," he outlined.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is released in cinemas on 20 December.
