James Franco is set to direct and star in a film based on the life of children's author and poet, Shel Silverstein.

The film will be written by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair who will be adapting the Lisa Rogak biopic A Boy Named Shel, according to Deadline.

Dave will take on the role of the multi-talented man, who enjoyed a very interesting life, and the film will follow his personal and professional struggles throughout his career.

As well as selling over 20 million copies of his books, Shel was a cartoonist for Playboy, a screenwriter and a singer-songwriter.

He won two Grammy Awards, and was also nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar. Pretty impressive if you ask us.

Elsewhere, Dave's currently busy promoting the film The Disaster Artist in which he plays Tommy Wiseau, the writer/director/star of 2003's The Room, considered one of the worst films ever made.

He and his brother, fellow actor Dave Franco, recently revealed that he weirded everyone on set out by actually directing as Tommy.

"I think it was a weird experience for most people the first time they came to set. I'd been going through pre-production, testing out the prosthetics, and that was a two or two-and-a-half hour thing every morning, and then I was the director, so I was there before everyone," James said.

Dave then added: "After a while, we would sort of get used to it, but there were so many cameos in the movie where every day a new person would show up, and we'd kind of have to prep them. We'd be like, 'So, you're not going to be around James today.'"
