Star Wars Episode 9 is still a long way off, so it's no wonder that we have absolutely no idea what the top secret Last Jedi sequel will be about.

But star John Boyega has given us a first, if very small, hint as to what might happen in JJ Abrams's movie.

"Next for me filming-wise is Star Wars Episode 9 in July, and they've officially given us a note to start training soon," he said during an Awesome Con conference call (via Star Wars News Net).

"I'm going to take a holiday before that, because I think Episode 9, you know, regardless of where the story goes – and I haven't read it, by the way – is going to be all-out war, so I know that I'm going to have to do all I can and train for that."

"All-out war"? Is Boyega talking figuratively, or does he have an idea of what is next for the Resistance? He hasn't read the script, but he might have some idea of the overall plot.

When we last left his character Finn and the survivors of the few Resistance after the events of The Last Jedi, their numbers had been devastated and they were practically beginning from scratch. The distress call they sent out had been ignored by any potential allies.

If they are going to be bringing war to the First Order, we guess that some time would have had to have passed between Episodes 8 and 9 to allow the Resistance to have built up their numbers enough to be a credible threat.

Maybe we're reading too much into this – but with 21 agonising months still to wait, can you blame us?

Star Wars Episode 9 will be released on 20 December.
