After a lot of speculation, Daniel Craig is reportedly going to return as crime-solving good ol' boy Benoit Blanc in a sequel to the deliciously tricksy upside-down whodunnit Knives Out.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during the company's third-quarter earnings call that another film teaming Craig with writer-director Rian Johnson is officially happening.

There's been no word from Craig or Johnson about the apparent confirmation so far, but both have made very positive noises about the idea of returning to the Blanc-verse.

"I had such a good time making it, such a great time working with Daniel, and now just seeing that audiences are responding to it, the idea of continuing it on seems like it would just be a blast," Johnson said recently. "But there’s a lot that has to happen before that can happen, first and foremost being writing a script. So, we’ll see."

We heard in early January from Craig that he "wouldn't say no" to a sequel, and then Johnson's producing partner Ram Bergman added that Craig "had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do another".

So that's good! Yes, it is a little bit ironic that a film which was lauded for being a beacon of original, non-franchise filmmaking which managed to make a load of money on the back great word of mouth is now looking like it might become exactly the kind of franchise it was meant to be a beacon against. No, we don't mind at all.
