We know: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was terrible. There's no reason you should be excited about another Indiana Jones movie. But, we being creatures of habit with fried short-term memories, we'll get excited anyway: Deadline reports that the fifth installment of the I.J. series will hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
Like the previous films, the as-yet-untitled movie will be directed by Steven Spielberg and will star Harrison Ford. However, George Lucas is not involved in the project.
"Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can't wait to bring him back to the screen," Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, said in a statement. "It's rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven."
Variety notes that this is all part of Disney's strategy to pump out blockbuster franchises to maximize spinoffs, sequels, merchandising, and theme-park rides. This won't even be Ford's next nostalgia project; he's joining the Blade Runner sequel, which is set for January 2018.
There's no word about who will costar with Ford in the new Indiana Jones movie, though Chris Pratt is rumored to be a top choice. But one thing's for sure: there will likely be no more nuking of fridges this time around.
