The mind of Kellyanne Conway is a dark and confusing place. It's a land that—like her stand-up act—is unfunny and kind of sad. Today, The Hollywood Reporter published an in-depth feature on Donald Trump's counselor and spokeswoman, which, in a very Kellyanne Conway sort of way, does little to actually explain anything at all. For some reason, one of the most bizarre quotes of the whole thing is this one about Kate McKinnon's impression of Conway on Saturday Night Live.

Throughout the election and now depressingly for the foreseeable future, McKinnon has played a despondent and shellshocked Conway on SNL. McKinnon even nails the anti-rhetoric of Conway's many non-answers. When Beck Bennett's Jake Tapper asks McKinnon's Conway about Scott Pruitt heading the EPA, she responds with, "Yes, actually, Scott Pruitt is excited for the job and ready to protect us all from the environment."

At some point during the Hollywood Reporter interview, the writer asked the real Conway what she thought of McKinnon's impression. This is an easy question. The answer could range anywhere from "I haven't seen it," to "It's good," to "It's bad." But this is Kellyanne Conway we're talking about, and she gave this response:

"Kate McKinnon clearly sees the road to the future runs through me and not Hillary."

What does this mean? It honestly sounds like something a cult leader would say. It's not like McKinnon chose to play Conway instead of Clinton. The election is over—something Trump's team refuses to accept, but at SNL recognizes there's more value in making fun of Conway than Clinton, who has kept a pretty low profile. At least in a video she provides a far more coherent answer: "I'm known as much more happy than maybe the character sometimes is."

Her favorite sketch, though, is SNL's "A Day Off," which shows Conway unable to enjoy her life because she's perpetually forced to spin all the dumb shit her boss does. Are you trying to tell us something, Kellyanne?
