Elisabeth Moss has hinted at a "gut-wrenching" and "inspiring" second season for The Handmaid's Tale.

The actress was fresh off her win for Best Actress in a drama television series at last night's Golden Globes (7 January), when she revealed that filming for the 13-episode second run is past its halfway mark.

"We're literally in the middle of episodes seven and eight," she said. "We are heavy in the throes of it."

Elizabeth added that the new season will act as "an example of resistance" and revealed she is yet to know how the last five episodes end, although she is due to have a conversation with showrunner Bruce Miller who will explain all those details any day now.

The Handmaid's Tale is expected to return to Hulu and Channel 4 later this year.

Alongside all our season one regulars, Clea DuVall will be joining the cast for season two as the wife of Alexis Bledel's character, but only in a guest-starring status (expect more pre-Gilead flashbacks).

Now out of source material and into unchartered territory, we also know season two will finally explore Gilead's race issue, include more details about Offred's mother, and have a shocking opener we're likely to be talking about for weeks.

"Don't try to guess what happens in that first scene of episode one in season two," Moss told TV Guide previously.

"You will never get it, and I mean that objectively as a viewer. You just won't guess, and I love that so much."
