Thirty years on from The Simpsons' TV debut—the family first appeared on The Tracey Ullman Show back on 19 April, 1987 before getting their own series–their creator has a new TV project in the works. Netflix announced today that it has ordered twenty episodes of Disenchanted, a new series from Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening.
Described as an animated comedy fantasy series for adults, Disenchanted promises to transport viewers to "the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland," where a hard-drinking young princess named Bean (voiced by Broad City's Abbi Jacobson) gets into scrapes with a feisty elf companion named Elfo, and a personal demon buddy named Luci. This mismatched trio will encounter "ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools."
Alongside Jacobson, the voice cast will include Nat Faxon as Elfo, Eric Andre as Luci, plus John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery in other roles. Here's Groening's elevator pitch:
"Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."
