It's alright, Stranger Things fans – those rumours that the Duffer Brothers are quitting their hit series after season three are completely not true.

Netflix said so.

Earlier today it was reported that Matt and Ross Duffer were planning on cutting down their commitments to the series after season three was finished, but Netflix US has taken to Twitter to assure fans that that is absolutely not the case.

"Don't drop your Eggos. Rumors that the Duffer Bros are leaving Stranger Things after season 3 are false," the company wrote.

Phew.

Season three was officially confirmed by Netflix in December last year, but speaking before that the Duffer Brothers revealed that the series was shaping up to be a four-season deal.

And while a fourth season hasn't been officially confirmed, the fact that Netflix has appeared to suggest there will be a series to leave after season three is done has got fans excited by the thought that the show won't be stopping after our next trip to Hawkins:

Stranger Things star David Harbour previously suggested that filming on the show's third season could be set to begin very soon – in March or April, even though he said he's had nothing confirmed yet.

Whenever it starts production though, we're still in for a long wait, with the series not expected to return to Netflix until 2019.

"I mean, one of the things that's annoying for fans is that it takes us a long time to do them," Harbour said.

"Like, you probably won't get [season three] until sometime in 2019 [...] Like any good thing, they need time. And those guys work so hard. I mean, they just sit in their apartment and write for 12, 14 hours a day."

Stranger Things is available on Netflix now.
