Game of Thrones' third episode of the new season 'The Queen's Justice' saw Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen finally come face to face.

But Jon didn't just want to ask the Mother of Dragons for her help in the war against the army of the dead.

He was given permission to begin mining dragonglass, a substance which can be used to kill White Walkers.

Fans on social media got very excited seeing this – and knowing that Gendry (Joe Dempsie) has already confirmed that he will be back this season, there was a lot of speculation online that his return could be tied to this story development.

You see, Gendry is a skilled blacksmith, and having one would be essential in turning the dragonglass into fully-forged weapons.

Of course, it's not like blacksmiths are a rarity in Westeros. That's the main snag in the theory.

Still, who knows? Maybe the blacksmiths at Jon Snow's disposal are all incompetent.

The last we saw of Gendry at the end of season three, he was freed by Ser Davos Seaworth and smuggled off on a rowboat from Dragonstone – supposedly heading to King's Landing.
