Despite Daniel Craig taking one for the team and returning to play 007 again - cheers, mate, imagine it's really tough - rumours are still swirling about who will be his replacement, likely because talking about Bond is more exciting than talking about Brexit.

As well as Harry Styles being, somewhat randomly, linked to the role, this morning brings the news that McMafia actor James Norton is the frontrunner with William Hill shortening their odds on the actor. Norton is now 2/1 favourite to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

“Over the last few weeks, as the drama has ramped up in McMafia, James Norton has really upped his game and looks very much a Bond in waiting,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “His odds of taking over from Daniel Craig have tumbled since the New Year.”

Other actor odds include Tom Hardy at 3/1 ; Jack Huston at 4/1 ; Idris Elba at 6/1 ; Tom Hiddleston at 6/1 ; Aidan Turner at 7/1 and Michael Fassbender at 12/1.

In an interview with Esquire last December Norton dismissed the rumours claiming they were “totally unfounded”.

“It’s lovely to be in that conversation but it’s not true,” he said. “It’s the only time I’ve had paparazzi chase me down the street and camp outside my flat. Someone even took a photo of me cycling outside my house. The Daily Mail published a story that was literally ‘James Norton Cycles… Somewhere.’ They didn’t even know where I was going! Hilarious!”

To add to the cacophony of Bond chat, this morning Craig's wife Rachel Weisz commented that weighed in on the debate of whether it was time for the next 007 to be a woman.

"Why not create your own story rather than jumping on to the shoulders and being compared to all those other male predecessors?" she said speaking to The Telegraph.

"Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories."
