Bartender Moe Szyslak may have been a part of The Simpsons for the past 29 years, but expect his family tree to branch out a little further when we meet his dad.

The downtrodden dispenser of Duff hasn't had an easy life, however an upcoming episode about the yellow family will star Ray Liotta as Mr. Szyslak.

According to EW, the Goodfellas actor will feature later in season 29 in the Szyslak-centric episode, which executive producer Matt Selman describes as: "A Shakespearean family drama, set against the backdrop of a fading mattress store empire."

Morty Szyslak is apparently a more evil and cunning version of his son who helped shape Moe into the veritable twisted gargoyle that we see today.

The Simpsons marks the latest in a recent run of comedy appearances for Liotta after roles on shows like Young Sheldon and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, so how will he fare this time around?

Liotta will also be joined by Moe's sister Minnie (played by Debi Mazar) in a season which includes notable guest stars like Ed Sheeran (below) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

There have been some more than memorable cameos on The Simpsons over the years, so we'll have to see how Liotta's role slips in alongside the likes of Glenn Close, Danny DeVito and Michael Jackson.

To be honest, with such a unique voice, we're wondering why Liotta hasn't appeared on the show over the past nearly-three decades.

And given Moe's tragic backstory, it will certainly be interesting to see just who or what screwed up the long-running character quite so badly. Find out more on 15 April.
