Eddie Murphy is officially attached to the Twins sequel Triplets.

The Doctor Doolittle star, who has actually been linked to the project for several years, will star alongside original Twins cast members Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito in the forthcoming film.

Schwarzenegger confirmed Murphy's attachment to Deadline over the weekend and also revealed the script is finished.

"Funny thing that happens in the mixing of the sperm," he said.

Twins was released in 1988 and starred Schwarzenegger and DeVito as a pair of siblings who reunite after learning they are long-lost twins who were separated after birth.

The film instantly became a cult classic, with talks of a sequel in the works for years.

Schwarzenegger officially confirmed work had begun on a sequel at Comic Con 2012, after previously being quoted as saying that he would "love to do another Twins".

Nonetheless, despite Danny DeVito's hopes that the sequel would be filmed in 2013, the project has spent a whopping six years in and out of development.

Not much else is known about the project at this stage.

There were murmurs a few years back that the film's original director Ivan Reitman would produce rather than direct a sequel, although it's not known who will direct the project at this stage.

Indeed, Schwarzenegger recently announced Terminator 6 will begin shooting in June, leaving little room in his action-packed schedule for more DeVito shenanigans.
