Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has revealed that his character in Game of Thrones will be sporting a new look in the final series.

After losing his long locks after the first few seasons, Jaime Lannister has been a sharp, snappy presence on the show in recent years.

But it now sounds like things could get a little shaggier again.

"I'm shooting the last season of Thrones. Generally speaking, I'm not crazy-hairy, but I have a full beard. Call me Hairy Styles," Coster-Waldau told ShortList.

Of Jaime's previous drastic change in appearance, he added: "He was due a haircut. Especially after spending two seasons dragged through the mud.

"There was a big change in the character, so a haircut is a way to signal that."

When it was suggested that he must have preferred no longer wearing a wig, he got very indignant about the fact that, actually, that hair was all his own work.

"That was no wig, it was all my hair!" he said.

"But there are a lot of wigs in the show, I'll give you that."

Fans will have to wait a little while yet to check out the new look, as HBO has confirmed that the series won't hit our screens till 2019.

Pictures of the set hint at huge scenes as a new £1 million castle is being built. Other images suggest that Jon Snow will reunite with Samwell Tarly (John Bradley).

Meanwhile, a dark ending for King's Landing and Cersei Lannister has been teased during the DVD commentary for season 7.

Game of Thrones season 8 returns in 2019.
