The Stranger Things shadow monster will be back in season 3, so Will Byers had better get his paper and pencils at the ready.

Speaking to Variety at PaleyFest 2018, executive producer and director Shawn Levy also opened up about the third season's setting in 1985.

"Season 3 is set in the summer, so right out of the gate that's a big difference. The first two seasons were very much school-based," Levy confirmed.

"This is that time of year where it's not about school, it's about the swimming pool and campfires and parades and Fourth of July and fireworks, so there's kind of a poppy fun to season 3 that's really enjoyable before things inevitably turn super dark."

And what of the Shadow Monster? "The Shadow Monster is still lurking up there out there in the Upside Down. He is determined to find a way to achieve his goals," said Levy. "The dogs didn't get it done in season two, so he's going to have some new strategies."

Meanwhile, back at the ranch Castle Byers, Levy also confirmed that "Dad Steve" will have an even bigger role in the next season.

"We'll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) in season three, and I'll just say we won't be abandoning the Dad Steve magic," Levy revealed.

Earlier this year, David Harbour revealed that on two, but on par with season one.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
