Netflix and the Cannes Film Festival are not exactly the best of buddies, and it looks like things between the two are getting even worse.

The streaming giant's movies are already banned from screening In Competition for the prestigious Palme D'Or.

That new rule followed a whole load of controversy last year when two of its movies - Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories - were nearly pulled from the competition.

However, it looks like Netflix has escalated the war as they have now apparently threatened to pull all titles from across the festival this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Of course, we don't know which titles they are as the line-up for this year's competition is yet to be announced, though it could affect a number of major directors.

The two parties are reportedly in conversations at the moment to try and resolve the impasse.

The inclusion of Netflix last year drew the ire of some, many complaining about the streaming site's strategy of not giving its movies a theatrical release.

The new rule for this year bans movies from the competition that do not have a French theatrical release, thus making Netflix ineligible.

And while they are still eligible for other categories, some have seen this as effectively giving Netflix movies second-class status at Cannes.
