By Jose Mourinho probably watched the 'PFA Player of the Year' awards while beating the walls of his hotel room with a golf club. After all, it was concrete proof that he had let go of the Premier League's two most talented footballers while at Chelsea.
In his time at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho let go of both Mo Salah, who went on to win the award, and Kevin De Bruyne, another frontrunner – and it's a decision Mourinho has been continuously mocked for this season.
But, as with every bad decision he's ever made, it is not Mourinho's fault.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Mourinho was gracious enough to (sort of) praise the Liverpool player saying, "I think everything has surprised even him. It has been fantastic."
He went on to address the criticisms about him selling Salah to Roma in a bizarre rant in which he (shock horror) takes all the credit for signing the player and none of the blame for selling him.
"It is the first time that I am going to say this, but it is another injustice that has been talked about me." he said. "People say that I was the one that sold Salah and it is the opposite. I bought Salah."
"It is the opposite. I was the one that bought Salah. I was the one that told Chelsea to buy Salah. It was with me in charge that Salah came to Chelsea. Chelsea decided to sell him, OK?"
He added, "Effectively I did buy Salah, I didn't sell Salah, but it doesn't matter. What matters is that he is a fantastic player, and I am really happy for everything that is happening for him and especially because he scores against everyone and he didn't score against us in two games."
In case you missed that, he didn't sell Salah, OK? OK??
It's a statement that has left pundits mystified after this image surfaced in which Mourinho is clearly yelling: "By all means, leave Mo. I don't need you. What you think you're going to become player of the year and they'll call you the Egyptian King? Only I can be king."
