Green Day fans are campaigning to get 'American Idiot' to the UK number one spot to protest Donald Trump's state visit to London.

After cancelling a planned visit last year, the US president is now expected to visit the city in July following the NATA summit in Brussels.

Obviously, this hasn't gone down well with a lot of well-rounded British citizens and it seems Green Day fans alike, who are now campaigning to get one of the band's most famous hits to number one to protest Trump's visit.

The campaign, called 'Get American Idiot to No.1 for Trump's State Visit', launched on Facebook in January and has slowly been recruiting followers.

Indeed, since the announcement of Trump's summertime visit, support for the page has exploded and led to it receiving more than 13,000 likes and over 11,000 shares.

"He's coming Friday July 13, so if we all buy enough downloads of Green Day's 'American Idiot' between Friday 6 - Thursday 12, it will time perfectly to hit number one the very day he arrives on UK soil," reads the post.

"Streaming counts too but less effective. Let's do this!"

In a later post, organisers added: "Yes, we know Green Day are already millionaires. No, you don't have to get involved. Yes, we're doing this regardless. No, we don't want to choose another song. Yes, we'll post up all links at the time".

"God save the Queen from the fascist tangerine."
