As Solo: A Star Wars Story approaches, a new featurette has dropped, and revealed how Chewie (aka Chewbacca) got his nickname...

Because in Wookiee, his name is extremely difficult to pronounce.

The new clip shows smuggler Han Solo learning Chewie's name for the first time. As Chewbacca moans his real Wookiee name, Alden Ehrenreich's Han Solo says: "You're gonna need a nickname because I ain't saying that every time."

Ergo, Han's companion is nicknamed Chewie.

In the video, the cast and filmmakers of Solo: A Star Wars Story also speak about the movie, with Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), revealing: "We're meeting Han right before he becomes the Han that we know."

"You end up getting to see how this guy got to be the way he is," adds Ehrenreich, while Emilia Clarke (Qi'ra) says: "He does these stupid things that should never work... and they do... and he does it with bravado."

Meanwhile, director Ron Howard explains: "The Star Wars universe that we see in Solo is different from anything else that we've seen in any previous Star Wars movies.

"The Empire controls everything, everyone is struggling to survive, but we discover this incredibly free spirit [Han Solo]."

The upcoming standalone Star Wars film is set a decade before Han and Luke Skywalker joined forces to battle the Empire in A New Hope.
