Wooooo! Ha-haaaaa, ha-haaaaa! Will Smith is returning to music after a 13-year absence to record the official song of this year's World Cup in Russia.

Smith will be joined by Nicky Jam and Albanian singer Era Estrefi, according to Vibe. Diplo is reported to be producing the track, and it's rumoured to be dropping on Friday.

The news initially came from reggaeton producer DJ Nelson, who described the collaboration as "just so crazy".

Billboard has had further confirmation from sources close to Smith, who was most recently seen as Deadshot in Suicide Squad and in Netflix's Bright, in which he plays an LA cop paired up with a rookie recruit who is also an orc, played by Joel Edgerton.

Smith follows luminaries like Shakira, Pitbull and Lonnie Donegan in composing the World Cup's official song, and, if we're to very charitably forget his non-charting and desperately rubbish 'Get Lit' from last October, is his first return to music since 2005.

The official anthem is usually performed at the opening ceremony, and while there's no confirmation yet that Smith will get his own Live Aid-style mini-set in which to jam through 'Will 2K', 'Gettin' Jiggy Wit It', 'Switch' and a special version of the theme from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air with a guest verse from Fifa president Gianni Infantino, we can but hope.

Hopefully it'll be more successful than Smith's last foray into football, when he took a penalty against Edwin Van Der Sar in the style of a man stamping on an ant.
