Gareth Southgate has revealed his final inspirational speech to his England team before tonight's game against Tunisia: "[A dignified silence broken by the excited clacking of studs on changing room floor tiles.]"

Southgate says he's not going to say anything in particular to his players in case he should, as he says managers he played under occasionally did, "fuck it up" for his players by loading them with new information.

"When I was a player, there were moments before games when I thought: ‘All the manager can do now is fuck it up for me [with his team talk] and put me off my game.’ I was ready and I didn’t want to hear too much more. And now, I think, my boys are ready," he said this morning.

Aside from that, Southgate's pretty pleased with where the team are at and has backed them to take the energy and enthusiasm he's seen in training onto the pitch with them.

"They have a hunger to press, win the ball back and play brave football. They want to be a bold and attacking team. That’s how I wanted them to play."

The only other take-home from the last press call before the Tunisia game is that Harry Kane took one jibe from a Russian journalist - about whether it was true that the golden teapot he was given by a welcome party in Repino last week was the first trophy he'd picked up in his career - right on his enormous chin.
