Despite Noel Gallagher turning down the chance to write an England song and being proved correct in his assessment that football would not, in fact, be coming home, Oasis do have form for soundtracking heart-throttling England losses.

Their plodathon 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' was set to England's loss to Brazil in the 2002 World Cup in quite similar circumstances, in that England led that game too and were pegged back. Given that the last half-hour of that game entailed England plodding around against 10-man Brazil, searching for inspiration from a 36-year-old Teddy Sheringham, it pretty much summed things up.
