The first image from the next Terminator film has confirmed that Linda Hamilton will return as gun-toting mum-about-town Sarah Connor for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgement Day, 26 years and three sequels ago.

Blade Runner 2049's Mackenzie Davis will feature too, as will Natalia Reyes. She'll be playing the lead, a young woman in Mexico City caught up in the Skynet-led war of the machines. We know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved too, as he revealed that he's currently filming Terminator 6 in a video message of support for Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama.

James Cameron isn't directing - he's a bit busy with several Avatar sequels and pootling about in the deep ocean, so Deadpool's Tim Miller will take the helm - but he is producing, and he's already confirmed that this Terminator will be a direct sequel to T2 and will basically ignore the increasingly confusing and tortured sequels Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys.

The sixth Terminator film doesn't have a title as yet, but it's set for release in November next year.
