By The final season of Anthony Bourdain’s CNN series Parts Unknown will air this autumn in the US, months after the chef and TV host’s death in June. But that won’t be the last time CNN viewers will see Bourdain on their screens.
Vanity Fair reports the network is working on a feature-length documentary about Bourdain’s life and career, working with Parts Unknown production company Zero Point Zero. There’s not much detail about the project yet, but it could come out as early as next year, hitting film festivals, movie screens, and then CNN.
“As well as we knew Tony, because he did reveal himself in the series, there was still a hunger to know more about him, and to honor his work and celebrate him,” Amy Entelis, CNN’s executive VP for talent and content, told Vanity Fair. “The documentary format became one of the more obvious ways to go. We just want to make it perfect. We want to make it exquisite for Tony. We want to do him justice.”
Until then, CNN will pay tribute to Bourdain in the final episodes of Parts Unknown. The last season was never completed, so only one episode will feature Bourdain’s narration. The rest will be edited together with footage and audio taken on the scene. There will also be a behind-the-scenes episode, with the Parts Unknown crew and friends of Bourdain remembering the late host. You can check out Parts Unknown on Netflix now.
