Henry Cavill has reportedly made his last journey through the sky as Superman, as yesterday it was reported he was hanging up his chainmail printed lycra bodysuit.

As to why he's been binned from the DC franchise, the Hollywood Reporter quotes a source as saying that, "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors". While the Mission Impossible actor had been in talks to cameo in the upcoming Shazam!, contract talks have reportedly stalled.

"Some parts of the previous [Superman] movies didn't work" the source added, pointing out that Cavill would probably be too old for the part by the time Warner Bros eventually decided to bring Superman back.

It's a double burn that the actor seems to be taking incredibly well, if footage from his Instagram account is to be believed.

In the surrealist performance art, we see Cavill slowly lifting a Superman figurine into frame while ‘The Blue Danube’ intercut with a dog barking plays in the background.

Whether this is a man very much on the edge after having his superpowers revoked, or just someone celebrating never having to squeeze his thighs into a lycra suit again, is as of yet unconfirmed.

He accompanied the post with the even more cryptic caption, "Today was exciting
#Superman". Is this the celebrity equivalent of your estranged cousin posting "Got fired today LOL, really great day that was!" or is Cavill hinting his cape will live to flutter in the wind again?

Only time will give us the answers, dear reader.
