Thanos may have succeeded in wiping out half of the universe's population, but was he the true villain in Avengers: Infinity War?

It may sound out there, but a new fan theory has suggested that another entity is responsible for the dramatic ending.

The theory goes that it's all the Mind Stone's doing. How?

"I have been going through the series again and been noticing that every time the Mind Stone is involved, there is somebody who wants to kill everybody or at least a great deal of people," a Redditor posted.

The user lists multiple examples from earlier MCU movies which backs the idea that the Mind Stone has been involved in such moments – ranging from The Avengers (where Loki has the object in the sceptre) to Avengers: Age of Ultron (where Ultron wanted to destroy humanity).

The post then goes on to explain how all of this could tie to Infinity War.

"In Infinity War, they had weapons that disabled the Stones' ability to allow Vision to phase, and he seemed to weaken the whole movie," it said.

"My theory is that the Mind Stone is alive, can see the future, and saw its own destruction, and set Thanos on the whole quest for the gauntlet – and killing off half the universe was just to reverse time and save it from destruction. Or it just hates life."
