The main Game of Thrones TV series may be wrapping up soon, but that doesn't mean that we are going to leave George RR Martin's fantasy realm behind for good.
The acclaimed author has been working with HBO on a prequel show, taking place 10,000 years before Ned Stark had his head chopped off.
While fans are eagerly awaiting more from Martin, he has stressed that this isn't your typical entry in the series, as it visits "a different world". He told Entertainment Weekly that Westeros is "a very different place" in the new series.
"There's no King's Landing. There's no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens, Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built," he said.
"We're dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series.
"[Prequel showrunner Jane Goldman] is a tremendous talent. She flew into Santa Fe and we spent a week talking about her ideas. She's going into territory that I haven't explored very much in the books. I've hinted about them. But she's a major writer, I love her work."
The Game of Thrones prequel series has cast Naomi Watts in a leading role, with two other major roles looking to have been cast too. Martin previously named the prequel as The Long Night, but later cleared up what he meant.
