Arya Stark has been involved in many short-lived alliances in Game of Thrones, but it looks like she finally has someone she can depend on in season eight.

Over the past eight years, Arya has learned the artistry of sword-fighting from Syrio Forel, travelled across Westeros with The Hound and swapped identities with The Faceless Men — but none of those alliances ended particularly happily.

Now though, Arya has finally reached the North. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Maisie Williams has revealed that Arya will find a kindred spirit this season in her sister Sansa (Sophie Turner) to call out Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

"It’s not often you see a character siding with Sansa who’s not manipulating her,” Williams explained. “Last season it was really tough for Sansa because Jon was thinking with his penis and it kind of made Sansa look bitter.

"This season you see Arya teaming with Sansa and sometimes calling out Jon. It felt nice and powerful to stand next to Sophie. Sophie and I are the tightest of friends when sitting across from anyone, so no acting required.”

The final season will also feature Arya's first major battle sequence, when she takes part in the most ambitious conflict in the Emmy Award-winning show's history.

“I feel like I’ve always been a part of this big show but in terms of being part of the episodes that really define us, this is my first taste of it,” Williams teased.

Williams's co-star Sophie Turner also recently revealed that the two on-screen siblings often slip Easter eggs into their scenes together in order to "freak everyone out a bit".

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on 14 April, 2019.
